Maggie and Aimee are so wonderfully, effortlessly in love. For their Wedding celebration, they stayed true to themselves, and made decisions together about what they wanted, for THEM. Their Wedding day was relaxed but classy, fun and emotional, and a complete celebration of not only their lives together, but continuing together toward the future. Check out their well crafted answers to my usual questions below, and then on to some of my favorite photos from their big day!
Looking back, what were some of your favorite parts or moments of the Wedding day?
MK: I loved spending time with my wedding party, who were made up of my sisters and nieces. It felt like we were little again playing with hair and make-up and chatting and being silly.
AP: I think that we were incredibly fortunate because for the most part our wedding day was everything that we wanted it to be. From a sunny cloudless January day at one of our favorite places in the neighborhood that we love so much surrounded by family and friends, it was truly an amazing day. But for me I loved being able to spend time with my mom getting ready before the ceremony and figuring what looked best with her keen advice. I loved having a cocktail with my best man to ease my nerves a little as the time of ceremony grew nearer. However, I think the favorite moment for me (and I kind of expected it would be) was when the doors opened and I saw Maggie for the first time in her wedding dress. She truly took my breath away.
What was your favorite piece of fashion or accessory, and where did you get it?
MK: My hair! I spent so much time working with my amazing stylist, Carolyn, to get the color just right. She totally worked with me on what my vision was.
AP: Funnily enough I actually hadn’t planned on wearing a necklace at all. However, there was a fluke with the custom shirt that I had ordered so I had to wear another shirt that I hadn’t planned on wearing so I didn’t try my entire wedding ensemble on until about 3 hours before the ceremony! Once I did my mom realized that she had just purchased a necklace that she thought that maybe she would wear but decided not to at the last minute, and it just happened to match my earrings perfectly. Oh, and my hot pink socks.
What was the inspiration for your decor or styling?
Both: This is a great question and one that we tried to answer during our entire planning process. We would say that our overall inspiration for the wedding was really our relationships. Our relationship not only with each other but with our city, our neighborhood, our friends and our family. We wanted everyone to feel that it didn’t matter if they were travelling from across the block or across the country to feel at home and comfortable – if you can call that a style.
MK: For my personal style, my hairstylist knew a long time ago that my inspiration for my styling was Joan Holloway from Mad Men. It’s one of Aimee and my favorite shows, and I have always loved her style and especially her hair!
Mention a funny moment here:
Both: We decided almost from the beginning that we were not going to see each from after the rehearsal dinner the night before the wedding until the “reveal” at the start of the ceremony the next day. So Friday night we said our goodbyes and we went our separate ways. We knew the next day might be a little challenging as far as not seeing each as we were both getting ready at the same small-ish hotel however we didn’t realize that how challenging! We found ourselves sending out advance people in front to clear the way to insure that there would not be an Aimee or Maggie sighting. Victoria and her team had to call and text each to make sure that we weren’t going to the same location for shots. By the end of the day it turned into this kind of fun game of cat and mouse!
Any wedding advice for engaged couples?
MK: Don’t forget that it’s really about what the two of you want, don’t let others distract you. We stayed true to ourselves and don’t regret anything!
AP: It’s really true what they say – your wedding flies by. People told me that and I was, like, whatever. But, really it seems like we should still be doing something to get ready for it and that it’s not really actually happened yet. So, cherish the day and savor every moment you can.
Tell us about the honeymoon!
A week after celebrating our wedding we embarked on a once in lifetime trip to South America for our honeymoon. Our trip began in Buenos Aires where we spent three nights exploring the city that we know through one of our favorite musicals, Evita. Originally, we were supposed to be there 4 nights but were delayed a night in New York City where we made the most of it by visiting our favorite bars in the Village and staying out all night before boarding our flight the next day! On the Saturday after our wedding, we boarded the Norwegian Cruise Line ship Sun for a 14-day cruise from Buenos Aires and journeyed around the southern tip of South America. We mingled among thousands of penguins in the Falkland Islands, where tens of thousands of penguins come every year to breed, hiked at the end of world in the Tierra del Fuego, we spent days marveling at huge glaciers and breathtaking waterfalls as we cruised the Beagle Channel, Straights of Magellan, Chilean Fjords and Patagonic Channels. We disembarked in Valparaiso, Chile, took an insane “Romancing the Stone” type bus to Santiago, Chile where we spent one night before trying to get back home to Chicago, spending a little unexpected time at the Tulsa airport, with our luggage staying in Dallas, before we finally got to spend our first night back home!
