Sue and Kenny’s music filled Wedding at the Mayne Stage, Chicago, Illinois

I liked Sue and Kenny from the second I met them at my office. We talked about their Wedding, and then on to our mutual favorite tv shows such as Doctor Who. Then something amazing happened; Kenny told me that I absolutely HAD to watch the show Orphan Black. I had been meaning to watch the show, but that recommendation clinched it for me. Needless to say, I binge watched the Series shortly after, and became a huge fan!

Sue and Kenny wanted to have a wedding day that reflected them; a fun celebration filled with music, family, and friends. Their First Look was one of the most memorable and touching that I have ever photographed. The music was also some of the best we have ever heard at a Wedding. As a surprise for their guests, there was an ice cream van outside the theater after dinner, waiting to give everyone frozen treats! What resulted from this moment is one of my favorite photos I’ve ever taken! It’s of Sue and Kenny, in the window of the ice cream van. Check out the photo below.

Now please take a look at some of my favorite images from the day, as well as a Q&A with the Couple!

Looking back, what were some of your favorite parts or moments of the Wedding day?

The first look – we were so excited to see each other and to be getting married!!!

The ice cream truck – seeing everyone’s excitement over having that for dessert; we couldn’t believe how big of a hit it was with our guests.

The dancing – we had a blast dancing with everyone…I don’t think the two of us left the dance floor!

What was your favorite piece of fashion or accessory, and where did you get it?  For Kenny, it was the Green Bay Packers cufflinks.  We got them from Etsy.  For Sue, it was the shoes and a bracelet she wore.  Her shoes were borrowed from our friend Denise.  The bracelet was a gift from her uncle.  He made bracelets for the bridesmaids and the bride and groom’s moms.

What was the inspiration for your decor or styling?  With the Mayne Stage being a concert venue, it inspired a lot of what we did.  Our invitations looked like vintage concert posters, we used old cassettes for table assignment cards, records were used as part of the table decorations, our gift card box was a guitar case, and for our guest book we had our guests sign albums which our wedding ceremony song and first dance song were on.

Mention a funny moment here: One of our guests asked if the albums we used as table decorations were part of our collection. We told him they were from Sue’s family and we didn’t know what we were going to do with them. He said he would love to have the records if we didn’t want them anymore.  We said sure!  It was funny to see him leaving the reception with 50+ albums under his arm and it was great knowing they were going to someone who would appreciate them.

Any wedding advice for engaged couples? Enjoy your engagement!  Have the wedding and reception that you want and have fun while you’re planning everything.  Be true to your vision for that special day.

Tell us about the honeymoon! We went to Milwaukee for a mini-moon right after the wedding.  It was so nice to get away for a few days to relax. Next we are going to Riviera Maya in Mexico and staying at an all-inclusive resort.  Our room has a plunge pool and there’s a lazy river that runs past that will take us to a pool with a swim up bar.  It’s going to be super relaxing and a lot of fun!
