How I Shot It: Photography Tutorial 53

 

I love night sky portraits! This was taken just 2 hours outside Chicago in Middle Fork River Forest Preserve at about 11pm. 

 

 

 

 

How it was done:

  • Settings: f/2.8, shutter: 10 seconds, lens: 15mm, ISO: 1600
  • I had one flash with a blue MagMod Pro Creative Gels pointed toward the tree (camera left), and one flash with a MagMod MagGrid pointed to the Couple (camera left, just out of frame).
  • The flashes were at 1/16th
  • Since it was incredibly dark (almost a new moon), I was able to freeze the subjects during the long exposure
  • Single capture (one frame, no composites)
