How I Shot It: Photography Tutorial 52

 

I thought I’d show a little behind the scenes for a first dance at a wedding! This venue had big windows on the main floor that opened up to an outdoor area. I thought it would be fun to get some photos from the outside looking in, while my 2nd photographer took some from inside.
 

 

 

 

How it was done:

  • I used 2 Godox AD200 flashes: one inside to camera left, and one inside to camera right.
  • They are each on light stands, about 10 feet up so that I could get them far back.

 

 

Here is a diagram that shows the placement of the flashes:

 

 

 

And here is photo from the inside, showing where I was shooting from:

 

 

  • Each flash has a MagMod MagGrid on it.
  • They are pointed toward the couple, so that I could avoid lighting up too much of the room and other people, and to avoid glare/reflections. The grid also helps cut down on glare and reflections.
  • My exposure without the flash was dark, so that the couple would really stand out and be illuminated by just the flashes.
