How I Shot It: Photography Tutorial 1

The Church’s power went out, and the Priest said it would be ok for me to use flash, with is not something that would typically be allowed. It was a Greek Orthodox Ceremony, so I was also allowed to get fairly close and near the altar up front.

Here’s how it was done:

  • A flash with a single MagMod MagGrid was placed across from where I was standing on the other side of the couple, camera left and toward the back of the altar, pointed to the couple.
  • The angels are a reflection from the ceiling, which was done in-camera. You can use a small mirror, or even your phone! Use it to reflect into your camera by holding it up to your lens as you’re shooting.
  • Settings and gear: Canon 5D mark iii, 70-200mm lens at 70mm, f/2.8, ISO 500, shutter 1/200th.
